In the maze runner, a boy named Thomas is dumped In the middle of a giant maze and made to compete in levels of difficult trials for a company he knows nothing about. On top of that, his memory has been wiped and all he knows is his first name. He is greeted by a few dozen kids in the same scenario. Thomas has no idea who these kids are, but learns to trust them and together they make it through these awful tests.
Thomas is a natural leader, but he is not very strong and doesn’t possess too many survival skills, something essential for the maze. Thomas learns the power of teamwork when he uses his skills combined with that of his friends’ to escape the treachery of the maze.
Thomas starts out alone and rejecting all contact with anyone. He is in shock about what has happened. Thomas, however, quickly learns that that is not an option. To survive in the maze is to work together. Everyone has a role: Ably the leader, Minho the mapper of the maze, Frypan the cook, Winston the farmer and a lot of others. No one “fends for them self” and turn they get the support of all the other people in the maze.
Thomas quickly learns this and becomes one of the mappers. Thomas is contributing to the community in his own way, which means he gets Frypan’s meat, Minho’s knowledge, Winston’s harvest, and so on. Thomas learns he is much better off with an arsenal of friends backing him.
In the end Thomas realizes that it’s better to use teamwork than to work alone. Thomas ends up escaping the maze with the help of his friends, something he could have never done alone
